Undergray

Okay, here's a detailed description of the Undergray AU, formatted as requested:

Undergray AU

1. Introduction Text:

Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.

One day, a war broke out between the two races.

After a long and drawn-out struggle, the humans were... successful. Barely.

They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell. A gray magic.

Many years later...

Mt. Ebott

201X

Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return.

Or, they do. Just… changed.

2. The Underground:

The Underground in Undergray is a muted, somber place. Colors are present, but desaturated, as if viewed through a thick fog. The architecture is crumbling, and the magical energy that sustains the monsters feels weakened, drained. Dust motes hang heavy in the air, perpetually illuminated by dim, gray light. Hope is a rare commodity, replaced by a pervasive sense of listlessness and resignation. The inhabitants go through the motions of their daily lives, but their hearts are not in it. There is little joy or excitement, and interactions are often brief and devoid of true emotion. However, in this monochrome world, Papyrus stands out. His clothes are dark and his magic is bright and colorful, a stark contrast to the bleakness around him.

3. Characters:

*Flowey:A withered husk of his former self. He lacks the manic energy of classic Flowey and the sorrowful regret of post-pacifist Flowey. He only feels apathy. He dispenses with any pretense of friendliness immediately, finding it too exhausting. He can't bring himself to genuinely hate or enjoy anything.

* Quote: "…Just… die already. I really don’t care either way."

*Toriel:While still motherly, Toriel is weary and emotionally distant. She cares for the human child, but her actions are performed out of duty rather than genuine affection. She is a broken woman, worn down by years of isolation and grief. The fire magic she uses is pale and weak, barely enough to keep the Ruins warm.

* Quote: "My child... it is simply... better for you to stay here. Safer. It just... is."

*Sans:Sans's apathy is even more pronounced. He still tells jokes, but his delivery is flat, and his humor is morbid and self-deprecating. He makes no real effort to protect anyone, seeing it as ultimately pointless. His shortcuts are slow and unreliable. The eye that glows when he is serious is still blue, but its light is dim and flickering. He simply wants everything to stop.

* Quote: "Heh… guess you could say i'm havin' a… gray time. get it? …nevermind."

*Papyrus:In stark contrast to everyone else, Papyrus is vibrant and full of manic energy. He has a dark color palette, but his personality is colorful. He desperately tries to inject happiness and enthusiasm into the lives of the other monsters, but his efforts are often met with indifference or exhaustion. He is hyperactive and easily distracted, but his intentions are always good. His bones glow with bright colors, and his cooking is unusually delicious. He is the only one who seems to remember what it feels like to be happy, and he clings to that memory with all his might.

* Quote: "NYEH HEH HEH! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BRING JOY TO THIS DREARY PLACE! COME ON, SANS! LET'S… DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING!"

*Undyne:Undyne is a shell of her former self. Her passion and determination are gone, replaced by a dull resignation. She still trains the Royal Guard, but her heart isn't in it. Her attacks are listless and lack their usual ferocity. She is tired of fighting and has long since given up hope of ever escaping the Underground. She spends most of her time staring blankly at the waterfall, lost in thought.

* Quote: "…Training’s at… 3, I guess. Don’t really care if you show up."

*Alphys:Alphys's anxiety and self-doubt are amplified in Undergray. She is crippled by her failures and constantly apologizes for her existence. She has given up on trying to fix her mistakes and now spends most of her time watching static on TV, lost in her own head. She barely acknowledges Mettaton's existence, and their relationship is strained.

* Quote: "I… I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for everything. I… I’ll just be quiet now."

*Mettaton:Mettaton is a hollow parody of a celebrity. He still puts on shows, but his enthusiasm is forced, and his performances are uninspired. He craves attention but receives little, as most of the Underground is too apathetic to care. His metal body is covered in scratches and dents, a reflection of his own internal decay.

Quote: "Oh, darling, are you still* watching? I suppose I should be flattered… even if no one else cares anymore."

*Asgore:Asgore is consumed by guilt and despair. He sits alone in his throne room, a shadow of the king he once was. He lacks the will to continue the fight against humanity, but he also lacks the courage to give up. He spends his days tending to his garden, but even the flowers seem to droop under his care. He is a broken man, haunted by the choices he has made.

* Quote: "I… I just don’t know what to do anymore. Perhaps… perhaps it would be better if I wasn’t here at all."

*Frisk:Frisk is a blank slate, even more so than in the original game. They lack any discernible personality or emotions. Their face is always expressionless, and they move with a slow, deliberate gait. They are like a ghost drifting through the Underground, their presence barely registering with the other monsters.

*Chara:In Undergray, Chara is not malevolent, but rather apathetic and devoid of emotion. They appear as a faded, ghostly figure, trailing Frisk. They encourage the human to make whatever choices they want, finding no inherent value in either kindness or cruelty.

* Quote: "…"

*Asriel:Asriel is a depressed, withdrawn child, existing as a memory. His carefree and joyful demeanor is replaced by sadness and grief. He remains attached to his parents and his best friend but is unable to express his feelings. He lives in a state of melancholy, lamenting what could have been.

* Quote: "Please… just… leave me alone. I just want to forget."

4. Locations:

*The Ruins:The Ruins are even more dilapidated than in the original game. Cobwebs hang thick in the air, and the puzzles are broken and neglected. The purple hues are dulled and muted, giving the area a heavy, oppressive atmosphere. The echoes of Toriel's past happiness are faint and haunting.

*Snowdin:Snowdin is perpetually gray, with a thin layer of slushy snow covering the ground. The townsfolk are lethargic and withdrawn, and the holiday decorations are faded and tattered. The Christmas tree is bare, and the lights are dim and flickering. The scent of cinnamon is replaced by the smell of damp earth.

*Waterfall:Waterfall's beauty is diminished by a thick fog that obscures the bioluminescent flora. The water is stagnant and murky, and the echoes of the past seem louder and more sorrowful. The Temmie Village is deserted, and the Temmies have regressed to a feral state.

*Hotland:Hotland is even more desolate and oppressive. The heat is stifling, and the landscape is barren and lifeless. The lava is sluggish and dark, and the machines of the CORE are rusting and decaying. The sense of despair is palpable.

5. Paths:

*Pacifist Route:A Pacifist run would be exceptionally difficult, as it would require shaking the other monsters out of their apathy and convincing them that hope is still possible. Frisk would need to work tirelessly to reignite the spark within each character, offering kindness and compassion in the face of indifference. This route might even result in some characters remaining stuck in their apathy, making it a "Gray" Pacifist ending.

*Neutral Route:In a Neutral route, most of the characters would simply accept their fate, regardless of Frisk's actions. Some might show a flicker of gratitude or resentment, but ultimately, nothing would truly change. The Underground would remain gray and desolate.

*Genocide Route:The Genocide route would be disturbingly easy. The monsters lack the will to fight back, and Frisk would be able to slaughter them with little resistance. Chara would simply observe, offering no encouragement or condemnation. In the end, the Underground would be reduced to nothing but dust and echoes, a fitting end to a world devoid of hope.
